The Golden Hour

The golden hour was just fantastic this evening, I was able to get alot of wonderful shots of the yard/garden. the images are just so vivid with light and color this time of day... well the sun has set and the opportunity for more will have to wait till another day. I varied the WB (white ballance) on the shots to get the most pleasing effects.
ps... "golden hour"= last or first hour of daylight.

Hayleigh Too...

I see that we did indeed find the "Great Pumpkin" Hayleigh had a small hand in the event, but she was more content diging in the backyard dirt... :) I do to now know that all things are better with a sticker on them.... including the poor dog. Posted by Picasa

The Carvers!

The kids are all awaiting the return of the “Great Pumpkin” Monday night to get ready for the big event we all took our turns at hacking away at poor defenseless pumpkins, as you can see I was in on the merriment. Unusual for me to be caught out from behind the camera.

New Glasses

Well I see that Samantha is not one bit worried about having to wear her glasses, I think it bothered me more. But you know we all have them, it is something that they can fit such a small child with the right prescription, Hmmm how do they now if it is right? I think this is a wonderful shot of her going to school this morning... She was happy as they were going to have a Halloween party at school. Here are the 4 shots she let me take before she said thats enough, lets go!

Mmmm... Cupcakes

Cupcakes all over! the frosting was good too... The grandgirls had a time with the Halloween cupcakes after a homemade taco dinner, plans for the pumpkin carvin' on Saturday have been set and a photo op awaits. I saw a tip on Call for Help that allowed you to skew the thumbnail photo's on your blog, it was only for a Mac, but I was able to reproduce the effect in Photoshop using the grandgirls. It was alot harder this way but the result was the same.

Feeling Better

Feeling better that I have found this camera release, insted of the $135.00 model... I like the best items but I think I can "get by" LOL with this model for a mere $49.00 if I order it next pay day I should be ready for the next moon event... (and not Jamie's moon events) he has one monthly also.

Suzzie Home Maker

OK I can sew… no biggie, I was instructed by my mother many, many years ago and I just remember :) (thanks' MOM) I have wanted a couple of “photo” bean bags to help with camera stabilization. Here is the two I completed sewn by hand with care and minimal blood loss, yes it would have went a lot faster with a sewing machine but I don’t have one so my trip to the store included a needle. The small one is 8” w/2lbs of dried beans fill the larger one is 9x14” w/4lbs. fill bags are made out of black denim... Shot with my Canon 10D 50mm f/1.4 lens 580EX w/LS II manual mode.
ps. I still let the dry cleaners sew on my buttons...

Frustration

I was all ready to take some additional moon shots this evening, I thought I had the right tools for the job and I find that the remote shutter release that I have is only made for the "Digital Rebel", not the 10D Shit! So I fire up the old camera and grab this shot of the moon tonight… I went to B&H Photo Online looking for the right remote release, low and behold it is not 30 dollars like my last one but 135.00… Well I added it to my wish list.

Sleepy Hollow

Here is another version of the full moon from last night, I am thinking about entering this in the “Halloween” (no pumpkins allowed) assignment from TFTTF I have done some manipulation in Photoshop to give it the “Mood” using the nik Color Efex Pro 2.0 filter for midnight blue… Thell me what you think... Comments are always welcome.

Halloween Moon

Bobbie called and said the moon was full, so what do I do... "Grab the Gear" and head outside to see the moon rise, I was able to get a great shot this time thanks to some great tips from Tips From The Top Floor I used my Canon 10D 400mm f/5.6L at 1/1500 Sec f/5.6 ISO 100 cropped 100%

Go... Away... "Fat Man"

If looks could kill, poor Sam has me in her busniess all the time looking for just the right time to click off a few... I can only wonder what it will be like when she is grown and sees herself in all the places I have captured her wonderful smiles :) It's not hard to love her ... Posted by Picasa

2 Minute Photoshop

I was up early this morning listening to 2 minute Photoshop tips and wanted to try some out, I found this photo of Raven taken last month at Rayan's (why do I only get to shoot her in a restraunt?) I was playing with the skin smooth/glow tips given at 2 Minute Photoshop Tricks trick #8, I see a lot of tricks here are going to make my Photoshop time a whole lot more fun :)

The Witchin' Hour

Beware what goes bump in the night, look to the light for salvation... The errie crackel of the fire under the culdron... All of the spirt world rise... Ok this morning we had fun checking out the years Halloween costume... Samantha had a good time striking a pose or two. As you can tell she will be a "Witch" from her favorite movie Harry Potter... Shot with my 10D and 50mm f/1.4 lens... 1/125 sec. f/3.5 at 1600 ISO I did the mood lighting and ran the shot through "Grain Sugery 2.0" additional images Here: Posted by Picasa

Marathon!

I have managed to get Windows reloaded on my system, now comes the great chore of adding back all the applacations... 38 Windows Updates, 27 or so reboots, fighting with email account settings, I get a stupid error box about the Windows - Insert Disk error... I have inserted every disk I have used so far tonight and the damn thing is still asking me for it :( Needing the visine big time tonight LOL

Merlin

This morning I was checking out the forums and Merlin desides to join me at my desk, I had my camera handy so I grabed a shot, he was checking out my desk lamp. This made an errie shot, getting closer to Halloween so it fits in. I am looking forward to the weekend (not) as I have a computer overhaul to preform on my system, still unsure if it will include additional new hardware. Posted by Picasa

Listen to the Music!

I was hopeing to have a little photo shoot this afternoon with my grand daugther Samantha, she had a friend over and there goes my cooperation :( I was working durring the "Golden Hour" this was shot in RAW using my 100mm f/2.8 Macro, out of 14 I was able to get one some what good pose before she had to vamp... Also Picasa2 has a new version out v2.1 I see that the new version has better RAW support, I was able to get these processed without a problem. Additional shots from the session can be viewed here: Posted by Picasa

BSOD!

I have been so carefull with my system and tonight I am the not so proud owner of the BSOD, shit! I am back up but now I do not trust my system... I will be renewing Windows on a different hard drive before the week is done. I have all my data backed up on different drives; but! reloading all the freaking applications, that is good for a day+ of fiddling... Not to mention the personal settings (I have my work cut out for me) Now if the BSOD was as fine as the image above... LOL It is so rare to have a hard kernal crash in XP something is accessing the kernal at the core level, I have not loaded a driver since my iPod 3 weeks ago... Hmmmm

Filtered B&W

I was toying with this image, I thought it looked good in black & white... It was taken from a Canon RAW file and converted to "filtered b&w" using Googels Picasa2, don't get me wrong I love Photoshop CS2 but there are somethings that the Google application does real well... (is this a face only a mother could love)

Link for Bobbie

OK Bobbie, here is the link to Hayleigh's gallery that we took over the weekend here: You know it is only Monday...
I hope you find them to your liking, just post a comment if you see what you like LOL, as always you can browse to them from the darkroom under candid family shots.

Additional RAW attempt

I find that I am having trouble with my white balance while using RAW files, I am still trying to overcome the feeling that each image has to be processed individually. This one of Samantha looks good to me, but I have had 10 or more versions that looked good also, shot with my Canon 10D 1/45 sec f/3.5 ISO 100 I don't want this to become "work" to achive my final goal. I will play with this some more over the next few days.

Comments

Just a brief note to posters of comments, the comments should be added at the end (bottom) of the individual post not the top. Thanks'

Hayleigh Brooke is 2!

Happy, Happy Birthday to Miss Hayleigh she is a big "2" today, the family got together at Chili's for a bite to eat and share the day with Hayleigh. Bobbie had her cake and of course Miss Hayleigh was the first to get a peice... Mmmm good cake Hayleigh. any more chips and salsa?

Camera RAW

Today I am going to try to shoot with RAW settings, I want to be able to master this function of my camera, I know there is a learning curve but I think I can do batch processing - conversion of my images in CS2.

Camera RAW - Photoshop CS2 Video Clip | PhotoshopSupport.com: "Camera Raw — Photoshop CS2 (Photoshop 9) Video Tutorial

This is Raven, she is one camera ham I have never taken a bad photo of her :) this was shot in just natural light coming in from the resturant window. I think the girl should go into modeling.

Late Friday afternoon Chris has setup a new PC that is going to be used for a home music system, so of course we test it... And in response we get the next door neighbors reply with there rendition of the rock this house music... I guess I am totaly drowned out of my retro lounge music. :)

Photo Assignment

here is where I see if I can post a photo... I was shooting Samantha for the photo assignment this week... She is a doll, the category is "silence" now for a 4year old to be quiet is something but to have her still for the shoot is a different story... I finally got her to stay still long enough to get some shots, she always loves to run up to me when I take a shot and ask to see it LOL

NAS Memphis Airshow

I was a lucky guy I was able to go with Bobbie (poor thing being my sherpa) to the air show, I think we had a good time. Was able to get a lot of good photo's. This is one of my favorites; I also would like to thank Paul for getting me a VIP ticket to the event... more photo's here:
